A new European project brings energy to the classroom by supporting hydrogen and fuel cells education in schools. FCHgo! will develop an educational toolkit for school children and enable them to grasp the issues involved in the coming energy transition of our society. DTU Energy is a partner in the effort.
The transition to a renewable energy system is not only a technological challenge but also a societal one. To be able to assess the different options in an informed manner, the general public needs a basic understanding of the issues involved. The new European project FCHgo! will bring energy education to the classrooms by developing an innovative narrative-based teaching concept accompanied by multimedia materials. The project will inspire and inform teachers, pupils and their parents about the hydrogen and fuel cells technologies which will play an important role for the green energy transition of our society.
FCHgo! will offer the toolkit to schools in the five countries represented by the project partners – Denmark, Germany, Italy, Poland and Switzerland. The toolkit consists of six dedicated lessons on renewable energy and hydrogen, making use of games, stories, roleplays and experimental kits to visualize complex energy processes and the many uses of hydrogen. At the same time teachers will benefit from the flexible and easy-to-implement materials. FCHgo! will support the implementation of the toolkit and accompany three lessons in participating schools.
The FCHgo! award for young inventors
FCHgo! will stimulate innovation among school children by launching an annual Europe-wide school competition, awarding the most innovative hydrogen applications developed by pupils. The first competition will be held in spring 2020. Participating pupils will be able to transfer their knowledge into practice, explore the possibilities of hydrogen and contest their skills as inventors.
